Echoes of Her

In three steps

A box for her arrived
I had ordered long ago
It had been lost
But we all know
We wait too long
That’s how it goes

Sometimes I get a call
Someone says her name
I have to hear it one more time
She went away
And they ask “Why? I thought…” and
And yes, I know, I am to blame

The awkward silence
The sad goodbye
We’ll stay in touch
It’s all a lie
They wanted her
Not me, so much
